X were a punk rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1977 by vocalist Exene Cervenka, bassist/vocalist John Doe, guitarist Billy Zoom, and drummer DJ Bonebrake. They were one of the greatest and most literate punk bands, blending punk urgency with rockabilly, country, and poetic songwriting. Los Angeles (1980) and Wild Gift (1981) are punk masterpieces.
