The Allisons formed in 1987 in Baytown, Texas, with two of the four members originally from New Plymouth, New Zealand. Heavily influenced by 1960s pop, the Smithereens, the Byrds, and R.E.M., the band crafted a jangly, harmony-driven power pop sound. They released a self-titled album on Spindletop Records in 1989, recorded at January Sound Studio in Dallas and mixed at Amigo Studios in Los Angeles. Their cover of Paul Simon's "Homeward Bound" reportedly received MTV Europe airplay. The band disbanded in 1994.
