Pavement were an indie rock band from Stockton, California, formed in 1989. Led by the laconic Stephen Malkmus, they defined 1990s indie rock with their lo-fi, oblique, witty approach. Slanted and Enchanted (1992) and Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain (1994) are cornerstones of the genre.
