Celindine

1995–late 1990s

indie rock noise

Celindine was formed in Houston in February 1995 when singer/guitarist Trey Pool teamed up with former Blueprint guitarist Damon Allen, recruiting Shane Ray (also ex-Blueprint) on bass and Jeremy Hayden on drums. They debuted in October 1995 opening for Sincola. After Allen left due to college commitments, Jason Gilmore — who had previously played with Pool in the Florida band Two Story People — joined on guitar. Houston Press described them as one of the city's most cerebral bands, making "miserable, loud and atonal" pop music with "catchy inside-out hooks and near-psychic guitar interplay." They recorded sessions in Austin with ex-Reivers member John Croslin and signed to the independent Houston label 76.2% Records.
